Kate Middleton’s Lesson to the World via Her Eyeliner

She is not the first royal lady to wear an eyeliner but she’s the only one in royal history getting a bad rep for it.

Since time immemorial much had been written on how to beautify one’s eyes. 

Particular attention had been given recently to a magical pencil (that is now available in liquid and even in gel form) used to define the eyes and give a variety of illusions – the eyeliner.

 If ever there is one cosmetic that ladies should have had already mastered the art of applying it is that of this humble pencil that had been used by the early Egyptians and made Cleopatra a beauty force to reckon with.

 Kate Middleton, currently holding the world’s attention, is one of the particular and famous reasons why this humble cosmetic sold almost anywhere from drugstores, department stores and fashion houses is getting the much unnecessary bad reputation.

The eyeliner is admittedly one of the cosmetic must-haves of those not born with naturally dark hair for it gives a particular dark line that defines and highlights the eyes.  It is one of the light haired people’s key to appear easily put-together and not washed out. 

Let’s try to decipher why and how Kate Middleton, in particular, a lucky brunette is now a great sample to learn from when it comes to the ill effects of uneducatedly using this particular pencil.

Less is always more.  True.  But once you need it you better use it but use it but with taste and a little updated knowledge.  This is true almost anywhere:  in clothes, perfume, diet and, yes, even make up.

And that seems to be the main problem with Kate Middleton.  Though she seems to get away with some applause from her doing her own make up, even on her wedding day, she seems to be a little short on the expertise of fashion and make up people who make, calculate and predict what looks good on people.

True that it would be a sacrilege to deprive one of a cosmetic that is almost like one’s security blanket it definitely would help Kate Middleton and many brunettes like her to properly balance an eyeliner’s effect by either smudging the lower lash line to soften the effect, and/or using a lighter pencil on that area and/or using a smoky eye shadow on the eyelid to soften and update the overall impact.

Kate Middleton had never been a make-up expert and even those who are earning a living in that area learned by trial and error and they are now all imparting that she de-kohl her beauty regimen.

Personally the Duchess of Cambridge, with all of her natural beauty, sometimes seems to get away with too much of the dark lines around her eyes though sometimes she really seems to be having a great time applying it without realizing it. 

 Kudos to the person who said that the Duchess has too much hair and too much eyeliner.  That could be the reason why everything seems to be a bit much.  Kate obviously knows how to balance her assets and with all that hair, well, she still has to be seen and the only way to divert attention from her mane is to play up her eyes. 

Maybe it’s about time she chops off some inches from that head of unnecessary hair so that everything would be properly balanced.

 As to whatever definition Kate’s eyes need that her treasured eyeliner provides it’s not too far off from the definition that her sister, Pippa, needs on the recent royal wedding:  heavy on the mascara but softly penciled on the bottom lash line.  It wasn’t only the dress that obviously made Pippa the Pippa of the day but her make-up contributed to her overall modern, sexy, elegant impact.

As to the illusions made by eyeliners the only illusion of someone in Kate’s stature should be is that she appear as a royal lady:  acting and putting herself tastefully so as not to attract the wrong kind of attention that raccoon-looking eyes are disappointingly now giving her.  She is not the first royal lady to wear an eyeliner but she’s the only one in royal history getting a bad rep for it.

British designer Vivienne Westwood even suggested that Kate should be wearing a smudged eyeliner or none at all.

Kate has gentle features and though this could be highlighted by cosmetics she has that aura of gentleness that perfectly goes well with her current role.  Heavily lined eyes make her look harsh and a little bit too much on, yes, the eyes.
